Popular American fast food franchise Church’s Chicken began accepting digital currency Dash (DASH) as payment (on December 12th) at its restaurant locations in Venezuela. This, after KFC chains in the country clarified that they were not accepting Dash (according to some reports).
Dash Payments Now Accepted At All 10 Church’s Chicken Locations
Dash News, a website dedicated to updates about the cryptocurrency, confirmed that Dash payments are being accepted at all 10 Church’s chicken restaurants in Venezuela. A video showing the first transaction involving Dash at Church’s Chicken has also been uploaded (as proof) to YouTube.
There had been some confusion about whether KFC restaurants in Venezuela were accepting Dash. On December 7th, Mark Mason, the PR and media director at Dash News, had announced via Twitter that KFC in Venezuela would be taking payments in Dash.
KFC Launches “Bitcoin Bucket”
However, representatives from KFC locations in the South American nation denied the news reports. KFC’s management also clarified that accepting Dash payments “is not a fact, nor has the publication of any news about it been authorized.” Soon after KFC released its statement regarding the digital currency, Dash Merchant Venezuela apologized for misreporting (via Twitter) and also noted that its announcement was premature.
Notably, Dash Merchant Venezuela and KFC are currently in negotiations, as the fast food chain is still considering accepting cryptocurrency payments. In January 2018, KFC locations in Canada began offering a “Bitcoin Bucket” of fried chicken, which could be bought only with bitcoin (BTC). KFC Canada also tweeted: “Sure, we don’t know exactly what Bitcoins are, or how they work, but that shouldn’t come between you and some finger lickin’ good chicken.”
Bitrefill, Uphold Added To Dash-Enabled Mobile Phone
As CryptoGlobe reported recently, Dash adoption in Venezuela is on the rise, as there are now over 7,000 units of the newly released Dash-enabled mobile phone that have been sold to people throughout the country.
KRIP, the Dash-enabled smartphone, has been developed through a partnership between Kripto Mobile Corporation and Dash. The phone has five different models and each model has a built-in Dash wallet and supporting ecosystem. Additional features include a Dash paper wallet and a few cryptocurrency apps such as Uphold (a digital asset exchange) and Bitrefill (for gift cards).
